In this model, administration of dopaminergic stimulants has been reported to induce repeated (‘stereotyped’) behaviours, such as locomotion, sniffing and chewing, that may be related to the positive symptoms of psychosis, as well as to impaired prepulse inhibition (PPI), a marker of sensory gating impairment also seen in patients with schizophrenia.
